Timberline

Radnor
1907
Demolished

Timberline was designed by New York architect Charles Adams Platt for W. Hinckle Smith, a broker & financier. This was Platt’s first of four Main Line mansions. It was designed in a combination of English Georgian manor and Italian Villa. Since he was trained in Europe as a landscape architect, Platt put as much emphasis on the yard as the actual house, and the 133 acre estate was a perfect opportunity for Platt to show his talents. Upon the death of Smith in 1943, the land was given to Radnor Township for parkland. Later, after the mansion was razed, much of the land was taken by the construction of Interstate 476.

1907: Timberline built
1943: Owner dies, portions of land given to Township
1976: Mansion demolished
