SEPTA is finally continuing the restoration process of the Wayne Train Station, which was inducted to the National Historic Register in 1999. There was a large movement in the late 1990's to restore the old station, which is in fact Wayne's third train station structure. The movement, largely spearheaded by the surrounding community, made good progress over the past few years to restore the station, though the process sometimes seemed sluggish. Hopefully with SEPTA's help, the new efforts will speedily finish the job. Noticable work on the station can be seen on the chimney and windows on the track side of the building, which are being stripped and restored. According to SEPTA, the plans will include new "historically appropriate doors," ADA ramp, "replacement or reworking of windows," and "reconstruction of stair side wall at the outbound side."
A visit to the new Minella's Diner is one each Wayne resident should take. Though the outward appearance is distinctly modern and does not match the retro diner aesthetic, the interior (see below) has many elements of the old-time eatery. When you go, note the Philadelphia skyline-etched mirror and the strange ceiling fans.A visit to the new Minella's Diner is one each Wayne resident should take.
