According to an obituary in the February 11 Philadelphia Inquirer, restaurant mogul Minella Zoto died at the age of 89. Zoto moved from Albania to North Philadelphia in 1932 with his father. He settled there later in his life with a wife and five sons. Zoto opened several diners in the Philadelphia area, including the Galaxy Diner in Juniata Park; the Grove Diner at 68th and Ogontz Avenues; Warminster West Diner and B. Maxwells Restaurant in Doylestown. His namesake, however, is the famous Minella's Diner in Wayne. The 24-hour diner has remained one of the town's most popular attractions for decades, and the growing popularity inspired the newest owners to sell the original building in order to build a bigger one last year. Despite changes in ownership and buildings, the diner will always be known as "'Nella's," and its namesake should not be forgotten. We'll miss you, Minella Zoto.
