(This is simply an exaggeration of the proposal, but it gives the idea of what the downtown could soon look like)

According to this week's Suburban and Wayne Times, a condominium complex has been proposed to be built in the center of Wayne, at the corner of Louella Ave. and School Lane. According to the article, "The Radnor Planning Commission voted Tuesday to recommend with reservation a proposed amendment to the zoning code that would allow a 65-foot high condominium building to be built in downtown Wayne." The condo complex will be aimed at empty-nesters who want to remain part of the community. A 65-foot building (about 8 stories) would have a huge impact on the character of downtown Wayne. It would dwarf the Wayne Hotel, across the street, and cast a long shadow upon nextdoor St. Mary's Church. And as far as the building already on the site, a late 19-th century house once owned by J. C. Pinkerton and later F. H. Treat and now part of a commercial property, its future is unknown. The Planning Commission must give careful thought to what this proposed building would do to the future of Wayne; if one highrise is built, it will be a matter of time before Wayne is innundated with similar proposals.
