The North Wayne Protective Association
had its origin on the evening of May 9, 1885, at the home of F. Louis Allen
when, to quote the minutes, "the residents of the North Side of the railroad
at Wayne met.....to discuss the merits of a scheme to organize a club for
the mutual protection and benefit of the said property owners." They
discussed the possibility of an electric fire alarm system, hose
extinguishers, and "sundry other arrangements."
NWPA Celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 1985. As a result of hundreds of
hours of research and work by tireless volunteers, North Wayne was
designated a National Historic District at this time.
None of this could exist without the continuing interest and energy of
numerous volunteers over the past century. North Wayne is the close-knit,
friendly, residential neighborhood that exists today only because of the
devotion and civic-mindedness of those who lived here before us. We need
everyone's help to continue this tradition. Becoming an active member of the
civic association is an excellent way to meet your neighbors and become an
integral part of this wonderful community.
Watch for your NWPA News letters, which are published irregularly throughout
the year, and flyers announcing each activity. Come to the Annual Dinner in
June to meet your neighbors and learn more about North Wayne's various
activities: the board of directors always has room for your talents,
interests, concerns, and opinions. |
